Change Your HVAC Filters

Deep Clean Your Bathroom and Kitchen

Inspect Your Major Appliances

- Oven / Range – Keep these appliances free of grease and grime. Ensure your hood vent fan filter is regularly cleaned by soaking it in boiling hot water with dish soap at least twice a year.
- Washer / Dryer – Check your exhaust vent annually and keep it free of lint to prevent a fire hazard. Wash the washing machine quarterly (yes, really!) on a hot cycle with a mixture of 1 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup baking soda to remove buildup.

Check Your Drains and Water Pressure
Clear / unclog slow drains before they become a major problem. Be sure to clean faucet aerators of calcium buildup. It’s also important to look for less obvious plumbing problems. You can do this by checking your water pressure with a pressure gauge annually to avoid putting unnecessary stress on your plumbing. GFCI is short for “ground fault circuit interrupters.” The purpose of these outlets is stop the flow of electricity when an imbalance is detected. Basically, it protects you from the risk of electrical shock. Test outlets once a month, especially those located in moist environments. Mr. Electric recommends testing the outlets by hitting the “test” button. Next, plug in a small night-light. The outlet should be dead.
